Japanese Cosplay is about the person becoming a chosen character or idea. The person looks and acts exactly like the character they are portraying.
Japanese cosplay has spread globally, and all dedicated cosplayers can join social groups, as well as personalize your cosplay profile on various sites on the internet. You can literally be whoever you choose to, as well as acting out your chosen character with no repercussions or stigmas attached. This is now fast becoming an accepted practice worldwide.
In Japan it is now a trend to have cosplay parties as well as going to nightclubs that are dedicated to cosplay. The costumes are specifically designed to the exact detail of the character they are portraying. Cosplaying is a unique form of art, like sculpturing or painting. A popular trend in Japan now is to act out non-Japanese fantasy as well as science fiction. Harry Potter for instance has become exceptionally popular, as well as various other popular films.
In Japan as well as other countries have special facilities where you can rent costumes for a night of ecstasy and passion. Specialized facilities like hotels or inns cater only for the sex industry. Japanese cosplay is not only dressing up and acting out, there are also a rich culture as well as tradition behind the character they have chosen to portray.
Western and Japanese cosplayers are taking on the roles of popular movie characters like, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and many others. These people are usually fanatical fans of the movie characters, and they become the character by Cosplaying. Many cosplayers will follow war heroes, science fiction characters even down to the fairies and gnomes are acted out. Japanese cosplay remains more or less original and follows customs and traditions that have existed for many centuries.
However there are costumes worn without any conviction by Japanese cosplayers that westerners would not consider wearing as it would be culturally not correct like a Nazi uniform or any other uniforms worn by dictators in the past. Japanese cosplay does not only cover specified role playing but covers all kinds of obsessive fandom.
